Welcome to Harwich RBL Brass Band's Website

Welcome to the Harwich Royal British Legion Brass Band's website. Harwich is located on the north east coast of Essex and well known, among other things, for its international port, at Parkeston, serving ferries to the continent, cargo shipping and cruise liners.

The Band is still busy and enjoying regular requests to perform. By the end of 2009 the band will have performed eight formal concerts including a joint concert with our sister band, Victory Brass, in Portsmouth.  Alongside several informal gigs such as playing at Harwich Quay for the Harwich Sea Festival, Tour de Tendring, 5 Parishes Show in Rowhedge and the Essex Air Ambulance Motorcycle Run. We also played at Harwich Cruise Terminal to nine cruise liner departures. In addition this year saw the launch of our first CD ‘Brassed Off in Harwich’. As usual we also participated in the area contests held in Stevenage.

VERY DISAPPOINTING (16/02/09)
Our Apprentice Band, that meets as part of our Saturday Morning School, had been working very hard over the last 5 weeks preparing music, much of it new to our young members, for a new venture. We had been invited to join Haverhill Youth and Community Band as their guests along with Fulbourn and Teversham RBL Youth Band, in a 'Youth Band Festival' to be held at Haverhill Arts Centre on Sunday 15th February at 7.30pm.
The Band travelled yesterday afternoon from Harwich to Haverhill for a massed bands rehearsal which proved to be very exciting and gave us all a taste of what a fantastic show of youth talent this was going to be.
Unfortunately the town of Haverhill suffered a power cut at just after 7pm which resulted in the concert having to be cancelled. We all travelled home 'very disappointed'.
A BIG THANKS to Di Pannell for organising the Festival-we are looking forward to hopefully a repeat planning of this event. Also many thanks to all the parents who committed their time for ensuring their children attended rehearsals and the concert.
A DELIGHTFUL EVENING (07/12/08)
Antony Sanders, Head of the Saturday Morning School, would like to thank everyone involved, for a Fantastic concert of Christmas Music Saturday 6th December given jointly by the Music School Band and Harwich Salvation Army Corps :-

"Well done to all the performers your confidence is growing all the time which shows in the ever improving performances.

A big thank you to all the teachers and staff without whom the music school wouldn't function. Hopefully what you witnessed last night will make you all proud of your achievements and realise how much impact you are all having on these children's lives whether it is through teaching them or just being around to mentor and encourage. Well done and long may you all continue.

To George Warren the compere, who helped make last night such a fun evening, he's always been so supportive of the band and is someone who would like to involve more.

Thank you to our 'sound engineer' Debbie who undertook the job in such a professional way with what can only be described as dodgy equipment!!!

Thank you to Barry and his team at the Salvation Army for hosting us and making the evening such a success, I certainly hope this will be the first of many occasions we link together.

Finally the biggest thanks must go to Georgie Cooper-Keeble who not only came up with the idea but saw it through, putting in a huge amount of time and effort and helping to raise £150.00 towards the running of the Music School. Thank you Georgie from all of us.

I'll finish by wishing everyone connected with the music school a really happy Christmas break, and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year".

DECLAN MEMORIAL CONCERT (30/05/08)
Harwich Band have been supporting this concert since the death of Declan Heath aged 9, five years ago. It was thought this year that the Music School Band could take on this role..
The Concert was held on Monday evening at 7pm in Mayflower Primary School, Harwich. The programme consisted of the Music School Band, soloists, a jazz quartet and the junior drum corps from the Music School and a sizeable choir, soloists, rock band and the Friday Music Club from the Mayflower Primary School. The evening was a resounding success with standing room only in the school hall.
An annual event in the Music School's calender is to present the Declan Heath Memorial Shield to the most improved player of the year and this year it was presented to a well deserved Chloe Jay aged 11, an up and coming front row cornet player. CONGRATULATIONS CHLOE keep up the good work.
All monies raised at the concert will go to the Declan Heath Memorial Fund.
