Apprentice Band Perform at Haverhill (17/02/10)
On Sunday 14 February the Apprentice Band played, as part of a Youth Festival of Brass, at Haverhill Arts Centre alongside the Haverhill Silver Band junior band. In the first half of the concert our band, conducted by Jenny, played Time Out, Djembe Funk, All in an April Evening, Grease and Everybody Needs Somebody.

The second half opened with a quintet from the Haverhill Silver Band followed by a quartet from our band featuring Mel, Chloe, Matthew and Peter playing Getting Latin and Gentle Brass. The band then joined forces on stage to play True & Trusty, Lion King and Hootenanny as a culmination to the concert.

The auditorium was packed and the audience was rewarded with an excellent performance by all players.

It is our intention to host a similar event in 2011 at the Princes Theatre, Clacton. Watch this space.
MUSIC THEORY SUCCESS FOR MUSIC SCHOOL STUDENTS. (13/02/10)
As well as being able to learn a brass instrument at the Harwich Royal British Legion Music School our students are encouraged to study Musical Awareness and Theory. Such has been the success of the school in it’s 5 year history that the rewards of their labour are being seen. Five students took their Grade 5 theory last November after a year and half hard study and many hours of practice papers.

It was very important that they passed this exam as these students are ready to move on in their practical examinations and cannot progress to Grade 6 in their chosen instrument without first having passed grade 5 theory. It is with great pleasure that the school can announce their success with a 100% pass rate.

Congratulations to (reading left to right in the right hand photograph) Jane Gibson age 46 for achieving a mark of 88, Peter Gibson age 13 achieving a mark of 76, Chloe Jay age 12 achieving a mark of 66, Mel Jay age 16 achieving a mark of 78 and Matthew Harmer age 16 achieving a mark of 80.
East of England Co-op Members Concert - 16 January 2010 (17/01/10)
The band played, alongside the Grange Co-operative Singers led by Anna Rendell-Knights, to a small but appreciative audience at the annual East of England Co-operative Society Members Concert held at the Kingsway Hall, Dovercourt. A varied and exciting programme kept the 'crowd' entertained. Special features were fine solo performances of 'Grandfathers Clock' played by Matthew Harmer and 'Tuba Mukl' played by Kevin Harvey

Newsletter (03/01/10)
The first ever edition of the band's newsletter has now been 'put to bed' and will soon be with printers. A downloadable PDF version is available from the home page above.

The Big Move (01/01/10)
Yesterday (31 December 2009) saw the band move to a new home. After many years rehearsing and being members of the Harwich Branch of the Royal British Legion we have moved to the Wix, Bradfield and District Branch. There were several reasons for the move - one was that of logistics. Around 50% of the Band’s players come from locations outside of Harwich and the move will mean that coming to rehearsals will be on an equal footing for all players.

To find the location of the hall go to the 'About Us' page you will see the photo of the building, a link to a map and directions - it is dead easy to find.

Rowhedge RBL Christmas Carol Concert - Monday 14 December (15/12/09)
Monday evening saw the band, instead of usual rehearsals in Harwich, travelling to Rowhedge to perform an annual Christmas Carol Concert for the Rowhedge RBL at their Branch hall.

A variety of traditional and arrangements of carols, together with audience participation, engendered a festive mood and made the evening an enjoyable event.
