British Korean Veterens Association Concert - 5 July 2009 (07/07/09) |
|
The band had another cracking event playing at the BKVA Eastern Region annual reunion held at Gresham's Sports Centre, Ipswich on 5 July. Firstly the band played accompaniments to the hymns for the service then at 3pm we performed a concert opening with the 'Hills of Korea'. The remainder of the concert included pieces played at the Harwich Festival last Friday. The audience of around 250 appreciated the concert and indeed sought an encore of the 'Hills of Korea' which was willingly played. On what was an extremely hot day the band performed well and should, justifiably, be proud of themselves.
The next performance will be at the Harwich Sea Festival on 26 July where we will be playing on the quay near Ha'penny Pier. |

Harwich Festival Concert - 3 July 2009. (04/07/09) |
|
The band played a varied a programme at the opening concert of the 2009 Harwich Festival week. Numbers played included 'Ticket to Ride', Pirates of the Caribbean, 'Breezin Down Broadway' and many other favourites. The performance also included three soloists - Sandra Lester playing 'Memory', Jenny Coyles playing 'Only Love' and Kevin Harvey playing 'Tuba Mukl'. There was an audience of around 150 on what was an entertaining evening.
Prior to the performance the band had an informal photograph taken on the beach front at Harwich. This is a new style for the band and it is anticipated that it will be on the CD cover pages when 'Brassed Off in Harwich' is launched in August.

Tour de Tendring (06/06/09) |
|
On Saturday 6 June a combination of players from the main band and music school performed an hour long 'concert' at the Tour de Tendring event outside the leisure centre in Dovercourt. A bit of a breezy day but considering the weather of the previous few days at least it was dry and warm(ish). The band played a set of popular and lively pieces in mood with the event. A set of photographs of the band taken at the event may be seen in the Gallery under 'Concerts'.

London & Southern Counties Regional Contest - 2009 (30/03/09) |
|
Sunday 22 March saw the band at Stevenage Leisure Centre for the London and Southern Counties Regional Brass Band Contest. The test piece - 'The Talisman' - was certainly a challenge. The band drew to play tenth place out of a cast of sixteen bands. The band played well and came fifth at the end of the day - a placing well deserved.
Well done to the band for a good and sound performance.
